Many designers, architects and contractors are surprised that we are able to offer toughened mirror glass.
At Rough Old Glass our process starts with clear or body tinted transparent glass. Cut to size, edges polished or bevelled and toughened, where required or specified. We then hand silver the toughened glass to create toughened antiqued mirrors.
You cannot toughen new standard mirror. We can silver panels with a 'Clean Silver' finish to create toughened mirror without distressing, although there may be some small blemishes or shading due to the hand finished nature of the silvering process.
Where mirror panels or tiles are being used behind a heat source such as an AGA or where there are socket cutouts required we feel that it's imperative that toughened glass is used to prevent cracks occurring during or after installation.
In commercial environments too - toughened mirror glass is often the only acceptable material.
The benefits of toughened mirror:
High Impact Resistance (At least four times stronger than annealed glass) Although the edges and corners of the glass remain vulnerable, take care not to knock during installation.
Heat Resistant up to 400 degrees Celsius
In commercial environments such as airports or in high traffic public areas, toughened mirror glass is often the only acceptable material.
