How to Measure for an Overmantel
When placing a mirror over a fireplace mantel there are no firm rules but we would suggest the following:
Width
- The mirror frame, including feet, should not extend beyond the end of the mantel shelf.
- The mirror glass itself should be approximately the same as the width of the fireplace opening (the measurement between the jambs)
Height
- If the mirror isn't sitting upon the mantel shelf, it should hang around 75 - 150mm above it.
- The mirror frame should be at least 100 - 125mm below a cornice or 50mm below a picture rail.
